The Committee, chaired by Hon. Timotheo Mnzava, commended the Ministry, through TAWIRI, for its efforts and research aimed at identifying and developing effective approaches to address the challenges posed by dangerous and destructive wildlife, particularly elephants.
The Committee said it recognised and appreciated the results of research undertaken by TAWIRI, which have contributed to the development of more effective approaches that are yielding positive results in managing human-wildlife conflicts involving dangerous and destructive wildlife, while safeguarding conservation objectives and the safety of communities.
The Committee further advised the Ministry, through TAFORI, to develop a comprehensive plan for establishing model industries for the production and processing of forest products, with the aim of adding value to forest resources and producing products that meet the requirements of both domestic and international markets.
The Committee also emphasised the need for effective strategies to promote and expand markets for forest products, while ensuring that products are consistently available and meet the required market standards.
For her part, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hon. Dr Ashatu Kijaji, assured the Parliamentary Standing Committee that the Ministry would continue to strengthen and support its institutions, including TAWIRI and TAFORI, to enable them to effectively discharge their mandates and achieve the intended objectives.
