ARUSHA BRACES FOR EL NIÑO AS RC MAKALA DEMANDS TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE ACCESS READINESS

The Arusha Regional Commissioner, Hon. CPA Amos Makala, has called on the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, district authorities, and other protected-area management institutions in Arusha Region to make comprehensive preparations to rehabilitate road infrastructure and ensure year-round accessibility as part of measures to address the El Niño rains expected from September 2026.

Chairing a Regional Security Committee meeting involving regional authorities, the Karatu and Ngorongoro Districts, and the management of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, held at the Authority’s offices in Karatu, Hon. Makala said Arusha Region receives the highest number of visitors, while the tourism high season is currently underway.

He emphasized that all relevant institutions have a responsibility to repair roads, bridges and drainage systems, while establishing alternative routes to ensure tourists can access tourism destinations and leave safely and on time.

“Arusha is the hub of tourism, and we must be fully prepared to ensure that visitors are not stranded under any circumstances. Disaster management committees and all institutions must work together to ensure the continued smooth movement of tourists, including participants attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting, which will be held in Arusha in October 2026,” said Hon. Makala.

The Conservation Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, Abdul-Razaq Badru, said construction of the main road from the Loduare Gate to Golini is ongoing. He noted that construction has commenced on the 29-kilometre section from Loduare to Seneto, while rehabilitation of other road networks within the conservation area is also continuing on a daily basis.
