President Uhuru Kenyatta and his counterpart US President Barack Obama
have reiterated their different stands on gay rights.
President Obama, while addressing a joint press conference with President Uhuru on Saturday, July 25, 2015, said all people should be treated equally under the law.
Obama said discriminating against people just because they are different eventually leads to rebellion and bad things happen as in the case with racism in America.
He maintained that it would be wrong to punish individuals merely because of their sexual orientation.
However, his State House host Uhuru Kenyatta pointed out that cultural differences that may hinder acceptance of same sex marriage in Kenya.
Uhuru explained that the country is still concentrating on with bigger issues like entrepreneurship, women empowerment, health, education and would not engage in the gay talks.

“If somebody is a law abiding citizen going about his business without harming anybody, treating them differently is wrong. Full stop,” he said.The US leader said governments should detach their policies from religion or culture in order to accord universal respect to all their citizens.

“Kenya and US share so many values including respect for human rights and value for families… But there are things we don’t share, our cultures are different,” said Uhuru.He said that gay rights remains a non-issue for Kenyans at the moment.
