EAC Secretary General, Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera presents a gift to Amb.Malika Berak
The government of the French
Republic has accredited its Ambassador to the United Republic of
Tanzania, Ms. Malika Berak, to also serve as Ambassador to the East
African Community.
Her Excellency Malika Berak today presented her accreditation letter dated 9th October
2014 and signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International
Development, Hon. Laurent Fabius, to the Secretary General of the East
African Community, Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera.

Berak informed the Secretary General that her government attaches great
importance to regional economic groupings such as the EAC and
congratulated the founders of the wonderful regional initiative.
“Count
on France’s support because the goals of the Community are excellent
for the prosperity of the people in the region”, asserted the French
Envoy, adding that “regional integration initiatives take time but you
need to continue so as to build a strong and powerful bloc”.
While
receiving the French Envoy, the Secretary General of the East African
Community, Amb. Dr. Richard Sezibera hailed the existing cordial
relations between the EAC and France.
He said the region was building a firm base to provide space to the over 140 million East Africans to improve
the quality of their lives through increased competitiveness, value
added production, trade and investments. “Our aim is to fight poverty
and establish prosperity and live in permanent peace, not conflict”,
noted Amb. Sezibera.
The
Secretary General welcomed the support from French Government geared
towards enabling the Community to achieve its ambitious agenda. He urged
the French Government to consider supporting the EAC in
three main areas namely; joining and contributing to the EAC
Partnership Fund; encouraging the Agence Française de Développement
(FrenchDevelopment Agency) to enter into partnership with the East
African Development Bank; and lastly to support the EAC in its Energy
programmes, especially the Renewable energy.
