Jambojet grows fleet with Bombardier lease deal

Low cost carrier Jambojet has entered into a leasing agreement with a Moscow-based Bombardier for two aircrafts.
The plane deal is expected to enable Jambojet expand its operations as demand for affordable flights rise.

Jambojet, which is a subsidiary of Kenya Airways will lease the two planes with the first plane set to be delivered this month.

The planes will be leased through Ilyushin Finance Co (IFC).
Jambojet has been looking to expand its fleet to meet growing demand on newly opened routes.
In December, delivery delays on a leased plane caused massive flight cancellations to Mombasa, Diani and Malindi during the Christmas festive period.
Jambojet chief executive officer Willem Hondius said the Bombardier Q400 aircraft offers reliability and cost efficiency that fits well with the airline’s strategy.
“The Q400 aircraft’s performance has exceeded our expectations on all fronts. With its low operating costs and best-in-class passenger experience, the Q400 turboprop has helped us optimize and expand our operations and is undeniably the backbone of Jambojet’s growth strategy,” Mr Hondius said.

The delivery of the two planes will expand its fleet to six planes as Jambojet eyes route expansion both locally and in the region.
On the radar of regional destinations are Entebbe, Dar es Salaam and Mogadishu.
