Kenyans accused of stealing Ksh1.4B from President Kiir to face re-trial

Two top officials in South Sudan's military courts resign, rebuke gov't. Photo/Courtesy The South Sudanese Court of Appeal has ordered for a re-trial of four Kenyans and 12 others who had been jailed for life over theft of Ksh 1.4 billion from the office of President Salva Kiir.
The court, has also directed that the accused persons remain at Juba Central Prison during the re-trial period.
The 16 were accused of alleged involvement in forgery, fraud, conspiracy to defraud the government, money laundering and terrorism financing among many other charges, which, according to the prosecution, resulted in the loss of Ksh 1.4 billion from Kiir’s office.

Last month, the families of the four jailed Kenyans held a vigil here in Nairobi to demand their release.
The vigil took place outside Intercontinental Hotel where the South Sudanese president, Salva Kiir was at the time residing ahead of the Heads of States Summit, held in Nairobi.
