UK minister: 'Assailant shot by police after attack'

Multiple wounded on Westminster Bridge near parliament as London police investigate 'firearm incident'. 

An assailant who stabbed a policeman inside the perimeter of  Britain's parliament was shot by police, the leader of the House of Commons told parliament.

Photographs from Reuters news agency on Wednesday showed a person lying on Westminster Bridge, bleeding heavily. 
"The alleged assailant was shot by armed police, an ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualities," House Leader  David Lidington  said.
At least four people were lying on the ground, some bleeding heavily and apparently unconscious, on Westminster Bridge, near Britain's parliament, Reuters photographs showed.
Polish politician and journalist Radoslaw Sikorski posted a video on Twitter of the aftermath on the bridge, showing several injured people lying on the ground.
