Nyeri County Seeks Funds To Buy Underwear For Boys

Underwear
Nyeri County government has tabled a proposal before its’ county assembly seeking to buy underwear for all school-going boys, a project that is expected to cost Sh1.6 Million.
The move will see boys both in pubic and private schools benefit from at least three pairs of underwear under a special programmes fund dubbed Elimu fund
Early this year, the county government launched a programme that would see more than 9,000 girls get free sanitary towels after a report linked their dismal performance in national examinations to lack of sanitary pads.
They later decided to provide schoolboys with underwear since they felt left out when sanitary towels were given to girls.
Various stakeholders in the education sector have lauded the move saying it will lessen the burden on parents as well as improve the pupils hygiene, especially those form poor backgrounds.
The proposal is yet to be approved by the county assembly.
