Four Al Shabaab militants killed in Boni Forest

A previous operation at Boni Forest. Photo/FILE Kenyan security forces on Monday killed four Al Shabaab militants and wounded two others in a fierce exchange of fire in Boni Forest, Lamu County.
According to Kenya Defence Forces Spokesman Colonel David Obonyo, the officers on Saturday tracked a police vehicle that had been stolen in December 2015 at Milihoi area into the forest where they confirmed that its occupants were Al Shabaab insurgents.

A fierce exchange of fire ensued that led to the death of four militants while two other survived but with multiple gunshot wounds.

The officers also recovered four AK-47 rifles, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs), three pistols, ammunition and a Global Positioning System (GPS) device from the fighters.
Colonel Obonyo added that the officers attempted to recover the stolen police vehicle but discovered it was booby-trapped and rigged to explode, they then detonated the explosive device, destroying the vehicle in the process.

The military spokesman added that they did not suffer any casualties.
He is now urging locals to report anyone seeking medical assistance in the area.
This comes just one day after three people were killed and one other injured after unknown assailants attacked Kaisari Village in Pandanguo, Lamu County on Sunday morning.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett confirmed the incident adding that security agents have launched a major operation in the area to find the attackers.
The first victim was attacked and killed after he was found harvesting coconuts while the second man was hacked to death by the attackers. The third victim was reportedly burnt to death after the attackers set his house on fire.
Residents said the assailants attacked Kaisari village and terrorised them for five hours before escaping.
