The 78-year-old man who acted in the state-owned KBC shows such as Vitimbi, Vioja Mahakami, Vituko and Kinyonga indeed was dear to many as condolence messages on him have been overwhelming, especially from the high and mighty on the land.
They included President Uhuru Kenyatta, the Deputy President William Ruto, opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka and Raila Odinga among other Governors, Senators and influential personalities.
“National holidays will suffer the loss of a long-standing figure of unstinting reliability in delivery… I have been a fan of his since I was a youngster… I looked forward to socialising with Mzee Ojwang and other artistes during the opening of the refurbished National Theatre. My sadness is greater for the knowledge that this will not happen… A great artist has taken his final bow. We salute him. A legendary Kenyan has gone to rest. We wish him a fitting farewell…” read in part the message of condolence from President Uhuru.Popular blogger Xtian Dela who has a following of over half a million on Twitter suggested that the loved actor be given a state send off, a tweet that received over 600 retweets in a matter of hours. #MourningMzeeOjwang has been trending on Twitter since the news broke.
