JKUAT, became a pioneer in manufacturing of
laptop computers in Kenya. JKUAT, in collaboration with the ministry of industrialization and enterprise development, launched Kenya’s first laptop computer – with specifications Core i3, 4GB, 500GB – at the Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi.

A new study puts Kenya at position 86 globally ahead of Nigeria, Egypt and Ghana, which have previously ranked higher with internet readiness being an indicator of a country’s ability to implement and take full advantage of ICT.
He said the launch of of a Kenyan-built laptop was significant because it strengthens the Taifa brand, which will soon be a market leader in the country, region and internationally – not just in electronics.

As of today, aside from the Taifa Laptop, there are few end-user devices that are assembled locally.
“Taifa Laptop is model of how we can partially meet demand for the Digital Learning Programme,” Dr Matiang’i said.
