Speaking her mind: In a new interview
with Cosmopolitan, which she covers in a plunging biker jacket, Hilary
Duff speaks for the first time after filing to end her marriage
Hilary Duff filed for divorce from her husband of five years Mike Comrie at the end of February.
And in a new interview with Cosmopolitan,
which she covers in a plunging biker jacket, the mother-of-one speaks
for the first time about the end of her marriage after her legal filing.
The
27-year-old told the publication that following the failure of her
relationship she no longer believes that people are meant to be together
for forever.
Hilary
shares a son Luca, who turns three on March 20, with former
professional athlete Comrie and has filed for full custody of their
child.
Speaking about her impending divorce she said: 'Mike and I were very in love when we met. We both really wanted to get married.
'I'd
been working since the age of 11 or 12, so making that choice at a
young age seemed right for me. Maybe it wasn't, but we spent the
majority of our time together really happy.'
Not so optimistic: The 27-year-old

The end: Hilary shares a son Luca, who
turns three on March 20, with former professional athlete Comrie - the
pop star has filed for full custody in her filing
'It
wasn't working well enough to stay together,' she continued, 'but there
was still a lot of love involved. It was just a slow set-in of us not
being the match that we used to be. I'm lucky for the person he is and I
am and how we decided to handle this.'
But looking forward the former child star's view of relationships is a bit more jaded.
'I
don't want to sound bitter because I'm definitely not, but I don't know
if people are meant to be together forever,' she continued. 'Things
happen over a long relationship that you can't always fight.'

Adding:
'A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really
great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight
for happiness.'
For
her accompanying photo shoot the star sported nothing but Daisy Dukes
and a biker jacket before slipping into a lacy pencil skirt and a crop
top.
Meanwhile,
TMZ reported last month that the blonde singer cited irreconcilable
differences and has hired divorce attorney to the stars Laura Wasser.
In the divorce documents, Hilary asks for primary physical custody of their son; she wants Comrie to have visitation rights.
Hilary was 22 when she married Comrie in Santa Barbara in 2010 and announced her pregnancy months later.
