He's back: Rowan Atkinson is bringing
Mr Bean back for a new Comic Relief Red Nose Day sketch, eight years
after he last took part
He can also be seen crying hysterically during the service.
It's been
25 years since he first graced our TV screens and viewers will be
pleased to see that Mr Bean has not changed at all during that period.
Rowan
Atkinson is resurrecting his beloved buffoon for a Comic Relief Red
Nose Day sketch for the first time in eight years and fans will see Mr
Bean being his usual highly inappropriate self at a funeral.
In
the comedy short, to air on BBC One on Friday March 13, Bean will
attend the funeral of a friend where he takes a selfie in front of the
coffin before leaning over it and listening intently to determine if the
deceased is actually dead.
Rowan will be joined by Ben Miller and Rebecca Front for the sketch.
Speaking
about the mini-episode, Miller explained: 'Mr Bean attends a funeral in
this sketch so I don’t think we should expect to see any kind of
decorum, reverence or appropriate behaviour.
He hasn't changed: It's been 25 years
since he first graced our TV screens and viewers will be pleased to see
that Mr Bean has not changed at all during that period
'I play a mourner in the congregation in this sketch who draws the short straw and has to sit next to Mr Bean.'
He
added: 'I think viewers will enjoy this sketch as this is just about
the worst thing you could ever possibly imagine happening at a funeral.
Inappropriate as ever: Bean's wailing at the funeral far surpasses the tears from other mourners
'The
best thing about filming this sketch was the fact we were all doing it
for Comic Relief. It was such great fun and everyone was there because
they truly wanted to be there. Everyone loves Mr Bean and we were all
delighted to watch the master at work whilst hopefully encouraging more
people to join in and donate on Red Nose Day.'
And
Rebecca added: 'The true beauty of Mr Bean is that you know something’s
going to go wrong, but it’s never quite what you think it’s going to
be!
Loveable buffoon: Mr Bean first hit screens 25 years ago and has been a firm favourite with viewers
Face the funny: Comic Relief – Face the Funny will air on Friday 13th March, 7pm on BBC One & BBC One HD & BBC Two
'This
sketch takes place at a funeral, so I’m sure viewers will expect a very
serious sombre occasion. But with Mr Bean involved, you never know
what’s going to happen… what could possibly go wrong?'
Speaking
of working with Atkinson and director Richard Curtis, she added: 'I
thoroughly enjoyed filming and it was incredible having the opportunity
to work with Rowan Atkinson, as I'm a huge fan of his and it was a
pleasure getting to work with him. Meeting and working with Richard
Curtis was also a real treat for me.'
Comic Relief – Face the Funny will air on Friday 13th March, 7pm on BBC One & BBC One HD & BBC Two.
