Lana Del Rey chose a look reminiscent of Priscilla Presley, and has been likened to a 'Seventies mermaid' by fashion critics
It is the ultimate star-studded event that is just as much about the fashion on the red carpet as it is the awards.
And
while many celebrities, including Kate Hudson and Amal Clooney, got the
look right at Sunday night's Golden Globes - dazzling in sophisticated
designer gowns and stunning heels - others didn't quite make the
impression they were hoping for.
From
the A-listers hoping to play it safe, wearing trusted strapless or
fishtail styles in nude and jewel tones, to those daring to take a risk
in out-there never-seen-before designs, the red carpet was awash with
stars suffering serious fashion faux pas.
Failing to impress was songstress Lana Del Rey, who wore a vintage Travilla dress, vintage shoes, a Ferragamo clutch, and XIV Karats diamonds.
The 29-year-old, who loves to experiment with her style, has been compared to Elvis' ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, and some even hailed her a 'Seventies mermaid'.
The turquoise gown did nothing to complement the pregnant star's porcelain skin and the ruched waistline was far from flattering.
Girls star Zosia Mamet was reminiscent of a layered cake in her strapless Andrew Gn grey and blush silk faille ball gown from the resort 2015 collection.
While Jessica Alba and Olivia Palermo have previously worn statement pieces by the designer, who often incorporates graphic influences from his heritage Asia, with aplomb, unfortunately Zosia didn't quite manage to.

She's known for her daring performances in physical comedies and Melissa McCarthy certainly didn't shy away from making a bold statement with her outfit.
In a somewhat refreshing move, the 44-year-old eschewed any high-end fashion designers and instead wore a black and white ensemble sewn together from 'pieces in my closet.'
Melissa had a conservative Pilgrim aesthetic in a white shirt adorned with a shimmering black bow around the neck and attached to a long pleated black skirt.
While speaking to E!'s Giuliana Rancic, the Tammy star described the look by saying, 'It's like a chop shop,' after assembling 'the weird project' from other pieces in her closet.
But in the end, she said she was pleased with the final product adding: 'It's a little odd but I like it.'
Melissa teamed the daring frock with red open-toe heels, a Carla Amorim ring and earrings by Doron Paloma.
With husband Ben Falcone at her side, the talented star wore her hair in a low chignon with soft pink makeup, dark lashings of mascara and a slick of plumb lipstick.
She did get some assistance putting everything together as she disclosed former Fashion Police co-host George Kotsiopoulos helped style the entire getup.
'Is Melissa McCarthy going to the Golden Globes or to a performance of The Crucible?' asked The Daily Show's Lizzie Winstead of the actress' home-made gown

Tina Fey's custom Antonio Berardi gown has been likened to a bejeweled, puffy apron - the dress' awkward hemline length needs to be slightly longer, or cut shorter
Kerry Washington's off-the-shoulder Mary Katrantzou gown appeared too tight and too stiff for the otherwise chic actress
Claire Danes' feather-covered Valentino gown appeared more like embellished grandma's curtains than chic red carpet style
Kristen Wiig's silk peasant style dress finds it downfall in the upholstery-like printing and tight boob tube-like tummy panel
Kate Mara ruined her beautiful Miu Miu gown with a thick tan belt that weighed down an otherwise delicate dress
Savannah Gutherie played it safe in a royal blue cap sleeve dress, but the strange leather fangs do nothing to save the otherwise boring and ultimately unflattering gown
Robin Wright ditched her usual sleek style for an alternative, and ultimately disappointing, Ralph Lauren look. She wore a black crop top and leather-stitched skirt, styled by the busy duo Kemal Harris and Karla Welch
Taryn Manning's peep toe shoes did nothing to uplift her Oscar de la Renta gown
Jennifer Aniston channeled a '90s bridesmaid with her gown's sequin halterneck top and wide sash placed right underneath her chest. The dress was partly saved, however, thanks to the daring thigh high leg slit
Actress Tiziana Rocca turned heads for all the wrong reasons in this black body con sequin number with a puffy pink train
